ichi.co.uk: Bypassing The UK Pirate Bay Blocks via... →
ichiuk:
I would like to start by pointing out that I’m not endorsing copyright infringement with this post, however The Pirate Bay has a massive amount of totally free downloads, from music promos to open source software, which the music and movie lobby groups have managed to get blocked in the UK…
Call of Duty vs. Valve games
The RRP for CoD is £59.99. This is not including ELITE, DLCs or your XBL membership. They release a new one every year. ELITE is £34.99, DLCs are 1200 MS points (£10.20) and I’ll assume there will be three of them, XBL is £34.99. Total yearly cost if you have everything is (59.99 + 34.99 + (3 * 10.20) + 34.99) = £160.57.
The Valve Complete Pack costs £49.99. Steam is free. This...

Native Steam client for Linux
Came across the URL for the Mac Steam client today:

Comes back with a JSON string. Wondered about Linux as have heard about it, so tried:

No luck - 404. Tried:

Brendan Eich: people are not always as they seem
Obviously this is post is all very subjective and opinionated, but this is how I generally feel…
For a long time, I’ve held a high level of respect for people like Linus Torvalds (creator of Linux), for Richard Stallman (GNU) and generally the people who have done amazing things without having to pile patents or copyright on them and have worked with open source heavily, etc.
Along...

This is an amazing end to the week. We leased our first premises (and omg walking into it knowing it’s ours is an amazing, but also slightly scary feeling). Tomorrow, I will receive my iPad 3. On Saturday, we will be kitting out our office. Good work.

James: Happy that I somehow seem to fit into your highly strongly typed interfaces

James: Though I suppose I haven't exposed all of my methods yet.
James: We shall have to see how compatible I am with further reflection.
James: Whether I forget to implement a few bits of the interface.

Buy it. It’s amazing. I backed $170 (£107.04) for one of the green/orange ones, but haven’t yet decided which one to get. To be perfectly honest, I want both, but not entirely sure that’s sensible. Would be $320, which is £201.49. But the coloured ones won’t ever be available afterwards. Eeek… I don’t know what to do! Somebody make the decision for me.

The leech of Europe
What on earth is the point? We don’t use the same currency, we don’t really get involved with them much, we have feuds with half the countries and we’re not even physically linked! (Well, other than the channel tunnel, anyway. Not naturally.)
N.B.:- this is another one of those “ideas” posts which aren’t in any way sourced any are based only upon my general...

Mac OS Spaces... Y U SO SHIT ON MULTISCREEN!?!
Title explains all, methinks.
I love Spaces on Mac OS. Really, really love, but I have one little (but actually quite significant) hangup about them. When you’ve got more than one screen connected, the way they work is just downright crap.
For a brief explanation to anyone who doesn’t have a Mac/doesn’t use Mac OS, this is what spaces are: (Hopefully, I haven’t...
Infinite scrolling?
Btw. I tried to add infinite scrolling to my blog using a lovely bit of jQuery, etc. but for some reason, it doesn’t appear to be working. If you know how to fix it, please let me know though the comment box below, or Tweet/email/submit/ask.
Thanks!

The curse of (such immodest) intelligence
Have just been chatting to my oh, ever so lovely bf (he said he was going to read it on the way to college tomorrow, so I should be extra nice to him!) and I realised that I’m feeling a bit shitty tonight. Few reasons for it (partly him, but whatever… hehe), but one overriding one.
I don’t know how many of (the very, very, VERY few of, I would expect) you can relate to this or...

Feeling shit. (& being in the mood.)
So at the moment, I feel pretty “shit”. I was feeling pretty good this morning. Had a sleepover with my best friend and had fun. But for whatever reason, I now feel a bit rubbish and it sucks and stuff.
Don’t know why really. Maybe to do with having this boy I rather like (luckily likes me back!) and not being able to see him for a while. Maybe I’m coming down with...

Recursive Mersennes
No idea if you’ve ever heard of the Mersenne prime formula. I’ll try and explain it as well as I can and also explain something I’ve found related to it.
Mersenne was a French guy and he said “2^n - 1” may be prime. This means taking two and multiplying it by itself “n” times and then subtracting 1 from the result.
So:-
21 - 1 = 1 - NOT PRIME;
22 -...
Apple Politely Tells Samsung To Make Crappy... →
alexheath:
Am I the only one who finds this absolutely hilarious?
In the ongoing legal mudslinging competition that is the Apple vs. Samsung patent dispute, Apple has politely told Samsung to make crappy products.
Matt Macari of The Verge has the list of “alternative design” suggestions that Apple has given Samsung to help settle the dispute about the design infringement allegations between...

Some time many years ago, we decided to measure something that has a zero value on a scale where zero isn’t at the zero value. A temperature of no heat at all is -273 and -460 in degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit respectively. This makes no sense. None.
In Kelvin, a total lack of heat is…

Just... in time with Just-in Timberlake.
Personally, I thought it was quite interesting. A good plot and played well… but I know nothing of good film taste. I haven’t seen many a classic, so ignore my views on this.
Anyway, yeah. I recommend it, but the critics don’t appear to agree. They’re probably right. Also, I thought Super 8 was good but everyone else didn’t like it, so whatever…

Oh, also.
I think I need a new theme. This one makes it kinda hard to actually read stuff and I’d be better off with a better one methinks. I like minimalistic designs. If you’ve got a suggestion, I’m all ears. Thanks

Many thanks to the Teen Boy Issues, written by a friend of mine, for linking to this blog and giving me some support.
It has the added benefit of finally motivating me to get writing on here properly.
Expect more posts soon & kick me up the arse in some way if I fall behind. Should have a new post up later.
Thanks, TBI. :)

So, you are an MSP. What does that actually mean?
Basically, I’m the “Microsoft guy” and you’ll hear about what I do and can do for you later on. There are just under fifty of us distributed around the UK and I’m here to sort out the areas around my home in Warrington and my college (Sir John Deane’s) in Northwich.
So what will you be doing?

Ooooooh... tech blogging.
So I’m a Microsoft Student Partner now. I guess I’ll have to start blogging about some technical things. I’ll be applying a tag to all tech based stuff. Amazingly enough, this tag will be “tech”. Clever, eh?
